Korean Class Update

I definitely am way over my head in my Korean class. We're now halfway through the second term, and I get further and further behind. I can put a little blame on the cold I've had for almost a week which has me extremely tired with no energy, but even if I were in perfect health I would still be overwhelmed. We are taught two to three new grammatical forms every day. I understand them fine; I just can't remember them! In doing the homework I have to keep looking back in the textbook to be reminded what the words mean.

And I cannot understand the spoken word. I am totally lost throughout most of the listening exercises. I just tried a "Listening Practice" review exercise, listening to the CD several times and understanding almost nothing. When I looked at/read the text, I was able to understand it reasonably well. But my brain doesn't work fast enough when listening. Since my goal is actual communication, this is a bit disappointing.

I'm glad I hadn't planned on taking a third month of classes because I don't think I could do it. Even if the school "passed" me, I know I would be too frustrated as I failed to keep up. I will continue to go to class, picking up as much information as I can, while acknowledging that a lot more work on my own is going to be necessary. Guess I'll be back at the Korean Institute of Minnesota in September and listening to my CDs over the summer.

Don't be disappointed. You're good. I was very impressed about your reading when I first met you. 정하, my daughter, and I had bad cold over a month. I couldn't email you but read all you articles. I am super glad to hear that you're coming back to Korean School in MN. :)

    Cheers,
    Judy (장미영)
